Piercing FAQs
Do I need an appointment for a piercing?
No appointment is needed for piercings; just walk in during business hours. We're open 7 days a week. Monday–Thursday 1–9pm, Friday–Saturday 12–10pm, Sunday 1–9pm.
How much does a piercing cost?
Piercings have set base prices that vary depending on the type of piercing. See the price list above.
What should I do to prepare for a piercing?
Eat a full meal before your piercing, stay hydrated, and wear comfortable clothing. You must be sober. Avoid blood thinners (like aspirin) for 24 hours before if possible. Come in relaxed and ready.
How long does a piercing take to heal?
Piercings can take anywhere from 8 weeks to 2 years to fully heal depending on the type of piercing.
What jewelry do you use for fresh piercings?
We only use high-polish, implant grade surgical steel jewelry, that is lightweight and pre-sterlized. Our jewelry minimizes the risk of infection and support healthy healing.
Can minors get piercings?
Some piercings may be available for minors with parental consent and a parent or guardian present. Please contact us before bringing a minor in to confirm what's available and what documentation is required.
Legal Requirements for Piercing a Minor
We do pierce minors above the age of 14, however the state has very specific laws surrounding what documentation is required. See the requirements below.
Our Studio Policy for Minors
- Minors MUST be 14 years or older to be pierced at Resurrection Ink.
- Not all piercing services will be available to minors regardless of age. A minor must be 16 years or older to receive a Navel piercing. We do NOT provide Tongue, Smiley, Cheek (dimples), Dahlia's, or Surface piercings for minors.
- We do NOT allow any minors under the age of 14 inside, and we do NOT allow any minors inside at all other than the minor(s) to be pierced.
Minor Piercing Requirements (State Law)
(a) The consenting birth parent, or legal guardian, of the minor is REQUIRED to be present during the entirety of the piercing service. Written or video consent is NOT permitted.
(b) If the consenting adult is the minor's LEGAL guardian, Legal Guardianship papers MUST be provided AS WELL AS the documents mentioned in (c).
(c) All required documentation listed below MUST be provided at the time of the piercing service without substitution or exception:
- (1) Birth Certificate of Minor — containing both the name of the minor AND the name of the parent consenting.
- (2) Photo ID of Minor
- (3) Photo ID of Consenting Parent or Guardian
(d) At the time of the piercing service, the consenting parent or guardian must sign a Parental Consent Form alongside the Minor Piercing release.
We are able to accept photos of the required documents, however the image MUST be clear and easy to read when printed.
How Long to Wait Before Changing Your Jewelry
You need to give your piercing time to heal before changing the jewelry. The jewelry used for fresh piercings is meant to accommodate different things that can happen during the healing process.
| Piercing Type | Minimum Time to Change | Average Full Heal |
|---|---|---|
| VCH, Septum & Lobes | 6–8 weeks | 6 months |
| Oral | 2–3 weeks | 8 weeks |
| Surface Piercings (just the tops) | 3 months | 8 months |
| Anti Eyebrow, Horizontal Eyebrow & Vertical Tragus | 3–4 months | 8 months |
| Industrial | 4–6 months | 1–2 years |
| Everything Else | 3–4 months | Varies from 8 months to 2 years |
If the jewelry you want to put in your piercing is heavy, dangly, or super decorative: give your piercing extra time to heal.
Piercing Aftercare
- Always wash your hands before handling your piercing.
- Clean your piercing 1–2 times daily with either a gentle unscented soap or a sterile saline solution. Use either your fingertips or Q-tips to help clean. Each time you cleanse be sure to gently but thoroughly clean away any dirt, debris, and/or discharge that has accumulated on the skin/jewelry.
- Always rinse your piercing with clean water after cleaning.
- Check the balls on your jewelry regularly/daily to ensure they are tight. At minimum this should be done before going to bed and after waking up.
- During its initial healing, your piercing will swell, have some slight redness or discoloration, possibly have some dryness, and will produce discharge. Normal discharge will look similar to eye boogies (pale yellow/pale brown). It should always be cleaned away and not left to sit on the skin for long periods of time. You can treat the swelling with ibuprofen and/or a cold compress.
- DO NOT use alcohol, peroxide, essential oils, bactine, or ointments on your piercing.
- DO NOT cover your piercing with gauze or bandaids.
- DO NOT change the jewelry before the allotted time given by your piercer.
- DO NOT remove and reinsert jewelry to sleep or to clean. This is unnecessary and will result in either the closure of your piercing or extreme irritation.
- DO NOT play with or touch your piercing at all unless you are cleaning it.
- AVOID regular compression on the piercing (tight clothes, shape wear, sleeping on it, headphones, etc).
Oral Piercings
- Rinse your mouth with mouthwash at least twice a day. Alcohol-free mouthwash is best.
- Lip piercings need to be cleaned on the inside with mouthwash, and the outside with unscented soap or saline.
- These piercings will go through a ton of swelling. You should take ibuprofen regularly for at least the first 7 days if possible.
Genital Piercings
- Use ONLY a gentle unscented soap to clean genital piercings. Rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards.
- NO sexual activity for AT LEAST the first 6 weeks if you have a Christina piercing; 4 weeks if you have a clitoral hood piercing. Once you get to that point you will need to clean the piercing after each time.
If any questions or concerns come up, call us at (912) 352-9926 or come in and speak with a piercer.
If you notice symptoms of infection(widespread redness, extreme swelling, bright yellow or green discharge, hot to the touch) please see a healthcare provider.
